About

Menorca roots, Bristol nights

Ben Boas was born in Barcelona and grew up in Menorca. In the 1970s his grandfather, Dennis Boas, ran a restaurant on the island called Scandals, where he played trad jazz standards on the piano. That's where the music started. He picked up the guitar at nine and has been writing ever since.

In 2023 he sang on two tracks by the French DJs Supermassive, "Rockstar" and "Deep Inside", released on Armada Music. Working with them got him into producing.

Now based in Bristol, Ben writes what he calls evolved R&B: soul and pop with electronic, hip-hop and bossa nova touches, built on jazz-style writing. His lyrics move between English and Spanish, often in the same song. His family still lives in Menorca, and he goes back to play on the island in the summer.

His debut EP, Whatever It Is I Like It, came out in August 2026. He recorded it mostly in Bristol, playing guitar, piano and drums himself. The same month, the new five-piece band played its first show together at Bandidu, on the harbour in Maó.
